Stephanie Chase

about Stephanie Chase

Stephanie’s experience with kids began as a weekday classroom teacher in Tyler, Texas. She has been an early childhood center director and trainer and now serves as the Kids Minister at Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. Stephanie also is the author of the TBCWEA curriculum School Age Fun. Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and a Masters in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dr. Barbara Sorrels

About Dr. Barbara Sorrels

Dr. Barbara Sorrels is a mom and grandmother with experience as a university professor, consultant, and Children’s Pastor. She is the Executive Director of The Institute for Childhood Education, a professional development and consulting firm for those who live and work with children. She has had over 20 years of classroom experience teaching children of all ages in child care, kindergarten, and elementary school classrooms, as well as over five years’ experience teaching graduate and undergraduate students at the University level. She also founded and directed early childhood centers located in Washington, D. C. and Fort Worth, Texas. Dr. Sorrels holds a doctorate in Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma State University, a master’s degree in Christian Education from Southwestern Seminary, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland. She served for over five years on the faculty of Oklahoma State University teaching in the Early Child Education program. She is the author of Nurturing Healthy Attachments.

Victoria Hughes

About Victoria Hughes

Victoria earned a Master’s and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. She is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and is passionate about supporting individuals and teams to use their strengths to make a greater impact their communities. Victoria has vast experience in using a strengths-based approach in early childhood programs, training and facilitating learning with groups like Early Head Start and Parents as Teachers. Currently, she supports not only strengths development in early childhood settings but is also a CDA Professional Development Specialist, providing verification visit observations to educators seeking to complete a CDA Credential. She is also as a Parents as Teachers National Trainer and supports parent educators who serve children and families using a home visiting model. She currently lives in Amarillo, Texas with her husband and two daughters and enjoys spending time with family, playing board games, and traveling whenever she can.

Melissa Dutton

About Melissa Dutton

Melissa received her BS degree in Elementary Education from Angelo State University. She also received a MS in Educational Mid-Management from The University of Houston Clear Lake. Teaching elementary school for 12 years and being a public school administrator for 3 years, gave Melissa a great foundation for directing an Early Childhood program. She spent her first year in Early Childhood substituting in University Baptist Church’s Weekday Ministries Program where she was led to accept a position as Assistant Director and the next year she became the Director June of 2004. In April 2017, she moved into a full time position at University Baptist Church where she is now Co-Director of Weekday Ministries and the Director of UBC’s Faith@Home Ministry.

Dr. Melissa Ewing

About Dr. Melissa Ewing

Dr. Melissa Ewing is the Minister of Marriage and Family at First Baptist Church McKinney as well as a licensed clinical psychologist. Prior to this position, she served for thirteen years as the Children’s Minister over birth through fifth grade. She has a Masters of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Texas. She specialized in children and families studies, and throughout her career has also provided counseling and pastoral care to hurting children and families. Dr. Ewing and her husband of 29 years have three adult children.

Shelly is the Associate Dean of the Graduate School of Ministry at Dallas Baptist University. She is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and holds a PhD in Childhood Education from B. H. Carroll Theological Institute. Shelly is also a Licensed Professional Counselor with a special interest parental bereavement and resilience in children.

Laura Davis is one of the Co-Directors of Weekday Ministries at University Baptist Church in the Clear Lake area of Houston.  She is also the Safety Coordinator for the church, which involves writing the church’s safety policies, safety training, creating and maintaining the church’s Safety Team, and working to educate the members of the church about safety.  She believes that being a part of Weekday is her opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet all the while laying the foundation of the truths of Christ with preschoolers.  She also loves sharing information with others to help keep them safe.  Laura grew up in Beaumont and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Texas A&M University.
